Squirrels are not domesticated animals like dogs and cats. Squirrels are, and always will be, wild animals, no matter what some so-called "animal lovers" will tell you (the anthropomorphic types). Wild animals are extremely difficult to properly care for - ask any properly certified wild animal rehabilitator.

We do not encourage or endorse the keeping of native or non-native wildlife - in fact, we actively lobby various levels of government throughout North America to update their outdated animal welfare laws. Wildlife belongs in the wild, not in a cage and not in your care.

Canadians: Please keep in mind that it is illegal to keep native wildlife for any reason (exceptions - licenced rehabilitators, education, research, zoo). Penalties can be severe (fines, imprisonment).

Americans: Unfortunately, laws regulating the keeping of native wildlife differ, sometimes wildly, from state to state. Penalties can be very severe (fines, imprisonment).

Please leave our native wild animals exactly where they belong - in the wild!

We encourage the one-time use of the 72dpi images presented within our photo images section for educational purposes by school children and adolescents only, such as a teacher-assigned project, essay or report. Any other use of said images  is not allowed for any reason unless authorized in writing by Hummingbird Services.

All we ask in return is that you credit each image used from the Cy Hampson Collection as: "Image courtesy Cy Hampson/FlyingSquirrels.com", and credit other images used as: "Image courtesy FlyingSquirrels.com", when using these photos for your project, assignment or essay.

FlyingSquirrels.com is the sole authorized distributor for the Cy Hampson images. These images, and many more exclusive images that are not presented in the Photo Gallery, are available in various high resolution formats. If you have a request for a specific image, please contact us.

The proceeds of our image and video sales support the costs associated with the maintenance of the FlyingSquirrels.com website, and more importantly, the content and delivery of our educational work. Therefore, we do not entertain requests for use of our images without recompense.

We are often asked by non-profit and non-governmental organizations to donate the use of our images for whatever purpose, and while we appreciate there is no harm in asking, due to an ever-increasing volume of requests, we no longer process free-use requests of our copyright images, however, we do offer discounted rates.

Don't forget to leave your contact information if you require a response!

Although we state here in plain English we will not answer questions with regard to the keeping of squirrels as so-called "pets", rehabilitating injured squirrels, removing squirrels from attics, feeding squirrels and so on, we continue to receive emails of this sort almost every day. There are many internet resources that can serve your needs, but we are most certainly not one of them. Be assured, messages of this nature will be filtered and trashed.
