Hand coloured lithograph by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins from Illustrations of Indian Zoology, John Edward Gray, Published in London, 1830 - 1835. Brilliant Flying Squirrel (Pteromys nitidus) This work consists entirely of plates - the text which was intended to accompany them was never published.The plates were published and printed by various firms. This particular plate was published by Parbury, Allen & Co, Leadenhall Street, and printed by W. Day, 17 Gate Street. The plates contributed by Waterhouse Hawkins all bear his name but how he is attributed varies from plate to plate. On this particular plate "B. W. Hawkins" is noted as the lithographer.
