Shown is a view of the top of the aggregate box. The board camera is mounted, set, and siliconed into place.
There are six infrared emitters surrounding the lens. The camera can
be powered by a 12 volt power supply or a 12 volt car battery. A
microphone was added at a later date.
This was one of our earliest designs, circa 1999. We have modified and improved our design quite a bit since that time. |
Shown is the unit in its completed state, weather-sealed and ready to be installed.
The video feed is sent to a monitor and recording device via heavy-duty exterior grade coaxial cable.
These days, wireless transmission of the video feed is the way to go. |
The aggregate box is installed and the camera is running. Now all we need are some flying squirrels to take up residence.
Our aggregate boxes are not exclusively for flying squirrels. Over the
years, we have had the following animals use our accomodations:
- Northern flying squirrels (single male; single female; aggregates of up to 6 individuals at one time)
- Red squirrels (single male, single female, female and litter of 5 pups)
- Eastern chipmunk (single male)
- Deer mice (single males, single females)
- Bumblebees (female with nest)
- Spiders (various funnel-web and hunting varieties)
