Range Maps

The following range maps cover both species of Glaucomys in North America and Mexico/Central America. There are 25 sub-species of Northern Flying Squirrel (Glaucomys sabrinus) and 10 sub-species of Southern Flying Squirrel (Glaucomys volans).

The range maps presented on these pages are general indicators only! As a rule, the most accurate range maps are State or Province-centric. It would appear that climate change has modified the northern ranges of the southern flying squirrel in both the USA and Canada in the past ten years, with solid evidence of northward range incursions and retreats in Ontario, Michigan and Wisconsin. For definitive range information in your geographic area, please refer to your local Department or Ministry of Natural Resources, Conservation Authority or Field Naturalist club.
