artist is J. W. Hill; (John W. Hill (1812-1879), considered the father
of the Ruskinian movement in America, was elected the first president
of the Association for the Advancement of Truth in Art in 1863. Working
almost exclusively in watercolor, he was the most esteemed American
proponent of faithfully recording nature with a stippled and highly
detailed touch.
