drey

An outside nest (as opposed to a cavity nest). Usually made of intertwined leaves, twigs, bark strips, lichens or a combination thereof. The inside is filled with shredded organic material, which becomes finer in texture towards the middle. The entrance, or point of ingress, is usually on the underside and is often difficult to locate. In really hot climates, some dreys are constructed without being completely enclosed.
